Rekey Service in Phoenix, AZ
Keep your locks, change the key. In-shop rekeys from $20, or we come to you.
Affordable Lock Rekeying Across the Valley
A lock rekey resets the pins inside your lock so old keys stop working and a new key takes over, without replacing the hardware. Veteran-owned, Arizona ROC licensed since 1997, fully bonded and insured.

What’s Included in an ACME Rekey

Every ACME rekey is a complete door rekey, not just new pins. A licensed locksmith comes to you, removes your existing locks, re-pins them to a brand-new key, lubricates the cylinders, and reinstalls them. Then we do what most locksmiths skip: we adjust the strikes so the bolt lines up cleanly, and if the door is sagging, we fix the sag, so the door opens, closes, and locks smoothly. We finish by installing 3.5-inch screws through the hinges and strike plate, anchoring the door frame into the studs behind the drywall. That single step reinforces the door and improves its resistance to a kick-in by up to three times. One visit, one price, and you walk away with a door that’s both rekeyed and noticeably harder to break into.

Rekey or Replace?
In most cases rekeying is all you need. It is far cheaper than replacing a lock because we only change the pin setup, not the whole lock, and your hardware stays exactly as secure, often more so once old keys stop working.
We rekey deadbolts, knob and lever sets, and most commercial locks. We can also rekey a new lock to match a key you already have, as long as the keyway is compatible. Need hardware fixed or installed? See lock repair and lock installation.
What Customers Say About Our Rekeys
When You Should Rekey
Rekey any time you are not sure who holds a key: when you move into a home or business, after a rental turnover, when a key is lost or stolen, after a break-in, when an employee leaves, or when too many copies are floating around. It is faster and cheaper than replacing the locks and it instantly cuts off every old key.
One Key for Your Whole Building
Tired of a ring full of keys? If your locks are compatible we key them alike so one key opens everything. We can also rekey a new lock to match a key you already carry, as long as the keyway is compatible (for example Schlage to Schlage), or set up a master key system for larger properties.
Brands We Rekey
We rekey Kwikset, Schlage, Yale, Baldwin, Emtek, Weiser, Mul-T-Lock, and Medeco, including Kwikset SmartKey cylinders. If another company tells you a lock cannot be rekeyed, get a second opinion, most can.
What It Costs to Rekey Locks
Rekeying is far cheaper than replacing your locks. The price mostly comes down to how many cylinders you have and whether we come to you or you bring the locks into a shop.
Home: an on-site rekey in Phoenix typically runs about $250 to $350 for three doors, including the service call, removal, rekeying, lubrication, and reinstallation, plus strike and hinge adjustments. Bring the cylinders to a shop yourself and it drops to around $20 per keyhole. See the full cost to rekey a home.
Business: commercial rekeys are usually done on site, about a $100 to $130 trip charge plus roughly $30 to $50 per cylinder, with small surcharges for IC cores, high-security cylinders, panic bars, or tying locks into a master key. See commercial locksmith services for business rekeys and master keying.
Rekey FAQ
What is lock rekeying?
Changing the internal pins of a lock so it works with a new key and the old keys stop working. The hardware stays the same, essentially reset to a new key.
Should I rekey or replace my locks?
In most cases rekeying is all you need. It is much cheaper than replacing because only the pin setup changes. If your locks are in good shape, we recommend rekeying.
When should I rekey?
Any time security is a concern, after moving into a home or business, a rental turnover, a lost key, or an employee leaving.
Can all my locks work off one key?
Yes, if the locks are compatible we can key them alike, including rekeying a new lock to match a key you already have. To test this, see if you have one existing key that slides into every lock (even if it doesn’t open the lock). If you do, they can be made to open from one key.
Does rekeying damage or weaken the lock?
No. Done right it causes no harm, and the lock is as secure as before, more so once old keys no longer work.
How long does it take?
Usually about 10 to 15 minutes per standard lock.
Can you rekey locks to a key I already have?
Often yes. If the new lock shares your current keyway, for example Schlage to Schlage, we can rekey it to match the key you already carry.
How much does it cost to rekey a house?
An on-site home rekey in Phoenix typically runs about $250 to $399 for three doors, including the service call, removal, rekeying, lubrication, and reinstallation, plus strike and hinge adjustments. Bring the cylinders to a shop yourself and it is about $20 per keyhole.
How much does it cost to rekey a business?
Commercial rekeys are usually done on site, roughly a $100 to $130 trip charge plus about $30 to $50 per cylinder, with small surcharges for IC cores, high-security cylinders, panic bars, or master keying. See commercial locksmith services for a quote.
